On September 21, 2021, FSIS released a Federal Register notice describing the updated guideline for packaged meal kits containing FSIS regulated products. The agency determined that it will no longer conduct mandatory inspection services for the assembly of these kits and that such products will now be eligible for FSIS voluntary inspection. Additionally, the notice responds to comments received in 2019, clarifying labeling requirements and noting that the retail exemption remains unchanged.
