Clinical Trial Authorizations Increased Despite Ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic [Press Release for Reference, May 16, 2021]

□ According to a joint analysis on clinical trial authorizations, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS, Minister Kim Ganglip) and the Korea National Enterprise for Clinical Trials (KoNECT, President Bae Byoungjun) announced that a total of 799 cases were authorized in 2020, up 11.9%p from 714 cases in 2019 despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.


□ Some of the major characteristics of clinical trial authorizations in 2020 included ▲ Increased Number of Clinical Trial Authorizations ▲ Surge in Early-phase Clinical Trials of Pharmaceutical Companies ▲ Increased Number of Clinical Trial Authorizations for Cancer Treatments and Infectious Disease Treatments including Antibiotics.
