With the spread of Korean Waves (or Hallyu), many domestic cosmetics businesses are eager to advance to China and other Southeastern countries. However, most of
these businesses are a small-scale, thus experience difficulties as they lack information regarding overseas regulatory and market information, suffer from low brand
recognition, and do not possesses much PR experiences, to name a few. For this reason, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) hosts One Asia Cosmetics and Beauty
Forum to help the said businesses exchange more information with relevant regulatory agencies and the industries in Asia, which will lead to communicating with more
potential local buyers. In addition, the MFDS hosts a high level meeting (between Director Generals of counterpart agencies) on the side of the forum, and the participants
discuss issues including regulatory harmonization and safety control in cosmetics.
Since the first forum was held in Beijing, China in November, 2014, the One Asia Cosmetics and Beauty Forum has been held annually with a great success. The MFDS
expects the forum to be a chance to promote Korean cosmetics to overseas governments and businesses, thereby enhancing their brand recognition. Moreover, the forum will
likely realize a further growth of Asia’s beauty industry as it will help strengthen mutual exchanges and cooperation.
