[EU] It's everyone's responsibility to #KeepAntibioticsWorking. Join the social media campaign! (2017-11-13)

On the occasion of the 10th European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD), which will be celebrated on 18 November 2017, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is launching a social media campaign called #KeepAntibioticsWorking.

The core message of the campaign is that, in a context where antibiotic resistance is increasing and we are facing the possibility of a future without effective drugs to treat bacterial infections, everyone is responsible for keeping antibiotics working by taking simple, concrete actions in his or her professional or personal life.

ECDC is therefore asking doctors, nurses, hospital managers, pharmacists, farmers, veterinarians, policymakers, professional and patient organisations, governmental institutions, as well as the general public, to share a message via social media, explaining what they are doing, at individual or collective level, to ensure that antibiotics remain effective.

Anyone can support the campaign by sharing messages, pictures or videos during the week 13—19 November 2017, using the hashtag #KeepAntibioticsWorking.

‘Keeping antibiotics working’ is also the title and the focus of the event that ECDC will hold to celebrate the 10th European Antibiotic Awareness Day on 15 November in Brussels.
